Garnier Olia Hair Dye Review- Best Hair Dye On The Market?

Today I decided to give my hair a DIY makeover. My hair has been every colour under the sun, but I always revert back to my natural brown shades or a deep black. However, I can never stop thinking about red hair. I think red hair is so beautiful, but I am not willing to bleach my hair in order to achieve it. I also did not want to part with my dark locks, so I decided to go for an “in-between” shade of reddish brownish/black…

_20170604_232936

I decided to pick up the Garnier Olia Hair Dye in the shade “Deep Cherry” which was on offer for £6.99 for one or two for £11. My hair needed two boxes which is pretty standard whenever I dye my hair.

I was drawn to this box as it said it was made with 60% flower oils and no ammonia. I use oil on my hair  for everything and I absolutely swear by it, especially flower oils. I have seen first hand how oils have changed my hair, so I couldn’t wait to try this product. No ammonia was such a bonus as I hate that horrible, strong, chemical smell that has me choking for clean air the whole time. Let’s face it, hair dye is not the best thing in the world for you. This dye claims to turn even dark hair like mine a deep cherry red and visibly make the hair look healthier. I rolled my eyes to this, because I have never used a hair dye that actually turns out like the picture on the box , but as you will soon see, I was very surprised by the outcome.

After leaving the dye on for 30 minutes, whilst washing it out I could actually feel how soft my hair was. I am due for a hair cut and was slightly worried that the dye would make my hair feel really dry and split, but even whilst wet, I could tell it was softer. On using the conditioner provided in the pack and drying my hair, I was amazed by how shiny and healthy my hair looked and also how well the colour turned out.

Considering the fact that my hair had multiple different tones in it before hand, the dye made my hair a very even reddish/brown colour which was exactly what I wanted. I love the fact that I don’t have those awful bright red roots and patchy looking hair that a lot of red box dyes seem to produce. It looks a lot more like a professional finish compared to a “do it yourself” job.

The application was so easy and mess free due to the lovely creamy texture of the dye. It washed out easily and it didn’t irritate my hair or skin at all. Best of all, it has a really pleasant, floral smell. If like me, you hate the smell of freshly dyed hair, this could be a product for you. I am so happy with the results and I would recommend this dye to anyone looking to add a bit of a red tint to their hair. I would not recommend this colour for very light hair/blonde hair as it definitely seems to have been made for dark hair in mind and I feel it would make for quite the multi-tonal look if you have highlighted hair… and not in a good way. I hope this review was helpful! See you soon and thank you for reading! xox

How To Incorporate A Touch Of Vintage Glamour In Your Everyday Life.

Hello darlings! Today I thought I would tell you a few ways in which you can incorporate a little touch a vintage glamour in to your everyday life. If you are not as obsessed with vintage as I am, doing the whole look may seem a bit intimidating, but a few bits here and there can add a lovely, elegant touch and make you feel fantastic.

Hair And Makeup

IMG_20170530_132128_711

I pretty much only wear a vintage inspired makeup look on a daily basis and I have done for years. I always wear a red lip and a lot of the time I will do a winged liner. This immediately makes your makeup have a retro feel and it is so simple to do, even if you just wear the red lip! If you are nervous about wearing a bright red lip, try a more subtle, berry colour!

For hair, I normally wear it curled. If I am going out or if I feel like doing a full-glam look, I’ll do a full vintage up-do or wave. I can be a bit lazy when it comes to doing victory rolls, so most days I do “faux” rolls or bumps. Here is a link to a fantastic video by the gorgeous Cherry Doll face, showing you how to do a lovely every day look. I interviewed Cherry a little while back and she is the sweetest woman ever and has amazing hair and makeup skills!

Clothes

I am constantly asked “Oh, are you going out somewhere nice?” because I am permanently dressing up. I do not need an occasion to get dolled up and it makes me giggle when people think I am going out for dinner or to a party. Nope, Im just celebrating life! Style is such a personal thing and I am not going to tell you what to wear exactly because what you feel comfortable in is so personal! But, I genuinely think every one suits the vintage look. It is flattering on all shapes and sizes and it looks effortlessly glamorous.

My wardrobe consists mostly of dresses in the tea dress/flared style because personally that is what I like. Unless I am wearing my boyfriends clothes, I would not be caught dead out in joggers, the thought makes me shudder… i just can’t. I believe that every vintage lover needs a good coat however genuine 40s/50s vintage coats can be hard to come buy. You can throw it on over literally anything and look dressed up! My favourite places to buy coats are Collectif, Hell Bunny and Banned. If you do not want to fork out for a vintage reproduction, try and go for a coat that is fitted at the waist and flares out. A black Mac is always a good shout also!

Here is another video that shows you a few staples you can put in your wardrobe to create a glamorous vintage look  and how to shop vintage when on a budget, by the lovely Karolina Zebrowska.

This is the quickest and cheapest way you can add little touches of vintage glamour. Gorgeous tea cups, silver wear, glasses and furniture can be found in most thrift stores, charity shops and even online! They look far more expensive than they actually are and can easily be upholstered to look brand new. Plus, it is quite a novelty to drink from a cute little teacup and guests absolutely love it!

Buy Your Beauty Mark- By Dita Von Teese

IMG_20170529_213211_101

This book is absolutely amazing and was written by Burlesque and Vintage Queen Dita Von Teese. I call it my bible because it contains everything you need to know about eccentric glamour. Also, it is just a feel good book and you will feel amazing about yourself after reading it. I can not recommend it highly enough and I genuinely believe all women need this book, even if they are not in to the vintage lifestyle. This book took Dita 5 years to write and she absolutely perfected it. I love it.

These are all of my little tips for now, but let me know if you would like more posts about vintage glamour, beauty and lifestyle! See you next time! xox

Foxy Locks Extensions- very HONEST Review!

Today I will be reviewing a set of Foxy Locks Superior 230g 20″  Clip In Extensions. Mine are in the shade Black/Brown. I bought these extensions myself and I have had them for over a year and a half- I have previously purchased the deluxe set twice, once in 2012 and once in 2014. The current set of extensions I have, I can not fault at all. I love them and the quality is superb. When I first purchased the deluxe set in 2012, the quality was amazing. They were so thick and gorgeous and at the time I wore them nearly every day to school. They lasted a year but I eventually needed to repurchase. When I repurchased them, I found the quality was drastically different. They were much, much thinner and far less durable. They went ratty and awful after only a few months. This put me off repurchasing them for quite a while. When I finally decided to repurchase, I went for the superior set as it is supposed to be much thicker. I decided to just go for it to see if they were any good. If they were terrible I would return them but luckily this set was excellent. When I browsed online, I noticed that other people had issues with receiving extensions that were not as good as their previous sets. For me, this is a bad sign as the products should be consistent but it seems to be that the quality is either really good or really bad.

I do not wear extensions every day anymore; I may wear them for special occasions or when I am going out/doing a specific look but they get no more than 3 times of wear in a month on average. The extensions can be curled, straightened, dyed and styled. I wear extensions solely for extra thickness and length when I fancy it! As for the current product I own as pictured, I really do love it and I have nothing bad to say about it. However,  I do have some things I found particularly annoying about the actual company. I looked at reviews of Foxy Locks online and saw that it had very mixed ratings and I found that most of the negative reviews had the same bone to pick as me…

Information About The Extensions I Currently Own:

  • For £132, the Superior Set comes with 8 wefts of Remy Human Hair (a full head of hair!). Remy hair is the highest quality hair you can get on the market. All the cuticles face down in one direction which makes them silky soft and tangle free. Unlike synthetic extensions, these human hair extensions do not have that artificial looking plastic shine. They look very natural against your own hair and blend perfectly.
  • The wefts are tightly sewn together and have silicone coated clips that keep the hair from slipping and to prevent damage. They are comfortable to wear and I find that I do not have to back brush or tease my hair to get this to stay put.
  • I wash these extensions whenever I feel they need it- Which is not very often. I treat them like my own hair so they stay strong and in good condition. I always use heat protection spray when styling as they are still human hair and need to be cared for in the same way as the hair on your head.
  • I store my extensions in the Foxy Locks Hanging Storage Case. It costs £15 which I do think is a bit ridiculous for a glorified hanger, but I do believe it is essential in maintaining the extensions and it is great for travel.

Things I Really Disliked

  • Poor Customer Service- When you go online and type in Foxy Locks Reviews, you get very mixed opinions and most of the time, the product is not the thing at fault. I have always found the customer service at Foxy Locks, absolutely dreadful. It truly is very, very poor (in my experience). One of my orders was taking over two weeks to ship, despite the fact I live in the UK where the company is based and had paid for faster postage. I could not get in contact with anyone and there is no number to call that I could see on the site- I am not sure if this is different now but back then, there was only a contact form which they say they will respond to within 24 hours but it took days for me to get a response which wasn’t even the slightest bit helpful.
  • Hit And Miss Products- When you are paying over £100 for a product, the quality should be consistent. This was not the case for Foxy Locks which is very off putting and causes lots of mixed reviews, so knowing whether they are any good is a bit of a gamble.
  • The Smell- When I got these extensions, they had a nasty chemical smell, possibly from a treatment on the hair. It really is not pleasant and I had to wash the hair a few times to get the smell out. I had not had this problem before so it made me wonder if all of the hair is actually quality hair.
  • Where does the hair come from?- I hate the fact that despite lots of research, I still can not find where Foxy Locks source their hair from and this really bothers me as I do not know how ethical the product is.

Overall Views

In all honesty, I would not purchase Foxy Locks again, purely because I think £132 is a lot to pay if you don’t know what the quality is going to be like. If you have the money then go for it as you may get sent an excellent set, but personally I do not like taking so much of a gamble in my purchase. I think I just got lucky with this particular set but once it needs replacing I will not bother. I do not wear them enough to justify risking purchasing another set so I am content to use the ones I have until they are no longer wearable!

It is such a shame as Foxy Locks do some truly amazing extensions when you get sent a good set, but overall I have very mixed feelings and will not bother with them again! I hope this review could be helpful/interesting to you! See you soon XOX

Classic Parisian Inspired Hair And Makeup

The Parisian look is one that any woman can pull off. It is classic, timeless, easy and effortless. The phrase “less is more” really applies here and it makes you look like you’ve put in a lot more effort than you actually have.

**PAUSE- There is only ONE DAY left to enter my luxury beauty giveaway worth over £50- it is open internationally. I will be choosing a winner tomorrow at lunchtime! Thank you to all of the people who have entered so far and good luck! Click here to be taken to the giveaway!**

The Makeup

wp-1494254992170.

Parisian makeup is 80% skincare and 20% actual makeup. Taking really great care of your skin is important for anyone, but it really helps create an even base to work with. I do not have perfect skin but I try my best to take really good care of it. I recommend using Liz Earle skin care products as they are natural, botanical and suit all skin types. To create this look, you want to bring light to the face, not shadow. There is NO contour in a Parisian look.

  • Base- For my base I am using NARS Sheer Glow in the shade Siberia and NARS radiant creamy concealer in the shade Chantilly. Both of these products are very creamy, light and create a beautiful natural glow without looking oily and shiny.
  • Cheeks- On my cheeks I have a very small amount of blush from theBalm in the shade “hot Mama”. I applied it to the apples of my cheeks very lightly and then fanned up.
  • Eyes and brows- I did my brows a bit softer than i normally would using my Anastasia dip brow pomade in dark brown and just brushed it through so there are no harsh lines. For the shadow, I only used one colour and applied in fairly messily, as if I was doing a smoky eye- the shade is Sultry by TheBalm Nute Tude Palette. The Mascara is the YSL volume effet faux cils mascara. Apply just enough to add depth, no more than one coat.
  • Lips- A Parisian look is not complete without a red lip. I would normally wear a bold red lip on a daily basis (YSL Rouge Per Couture shade 001) which would work great with this look, but I ended up mixing two colours- my signature YSL Red with the YSL Coral Incandescent rouge per couture shine lipstick to give a softer look.

The Hair

wp-1494255079213.

Classic Parisian hair always looks very undone without looking messy or dirty. It is quite tousled and natural looking. My natural hair is slightly wavey so all I did was leave it to dry naturally and then use a little bit of dry shampoo to add texture. You could recreate this by letting your hair dry in plaits or curling hair loosely, brushing it out and adding a bit of texturing spray or mousse.

That’s it for this look! I hope you liked this post. See you again soon! xox

The Real, Honest Way To Get Healthy, Shiny Looking Hair!

I find it extremely annoying when you read a blog post or watch a YouTube video on how to get healthy hair and the blogger/vlogger lists off a load of expensive products and tools that you will need, because it is really misleading and completely unnecessary. I thought I would make a little guide on how I get my hair to look shiny and healthy “the real and honest” way with the help of my mermaid assistant Ariel, because it does not need to cost you the earth and you can probably do it with things you already own (I also really love Disney). I have included a video and pictures so you can see how my hair turns out!

The one product I do mention that I believe is a must is hair oil. I literally use it for everything which I will explain in the post!  Continue reading

Beauty Benefits of Tea- Featuring the Cheshire Tea Company.

My love of tea may seem crazy to some people, but tea really is an incredible thing. Not only can it be absolutely delicious if you are drinking good quality tea, it is also full to the brim with health and beauty benefits that make you look good and feel good. The three tea choices I am highlighting today are all incredibly tasty, full of lovely health and beauty benefits and come from none other than the wonderful Cheshire Tea Company. This post is not sponsored; I just really love this tea company and think everyone needs it in their life!

I first discovered the award winning Cheshire Tea Company at a Christmas Market in 2014. It was then that I fell in love with their mint chocolate rooibos tea which tastes absolutely incredible. As I do not live nearby any stockists, I have to order my tea online from their website but the service is excellent and super speedy! When I actually read the ingredients of all of the tea, I was very pleased to see that not only were they top quality, but they were packed full of positive benefits.

Mint Chocolate Rooibos Tea

wp-1488562689772.jpg

This tea is made from luxury rooibos, organic peppermint, calendula petals, cacao bean pieces and natural flavours. This tea tastes exactly like mint chocolate and despite its decadent, dessert like flavour, it is actually full of health benefits, which is so hard to believe when you are drinking it as it tastes more like a naughty treat rather than a healthy drink.

Rooibos tea is naturally high in minerals including manganese, calcium and fluoride which promote healthy bones and teeth. Drinking rooibos tea may help prevent common health conditions including joint pain and arthritis. Not only that, but beauty lovers can rejoice as rooibos is also high in zinc and alpha hydroxy acid.. Both of these nutrients are great for the skin and may help alleviate problems including acne, sunburn and uneven skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids are also found in many upscale cosmetic products because it helps reduce the signs of aging including wrinkles. It’s a common ingredient in chemical peels believe it or not! So why go through the trouble of a chemical peal when you can get that illuminating glow from the inside?  Also, peppermint is very well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, working miracles for bloating and IBS sufferers. It also helps to relieve stress, so this tea is an all round win!

Cherry Sencha Green Tea

wp-1488562682769.jpg

When I first tried this tea, I could not believe I had managed to live without it. Dramatic I know, but you will understand once you taste this wonderful drink. This tea is is made from luxury green sencha tea, rose petals and natural flavours. See, it even sounds beautiful (It smells like heaven also). Everything about this drink is simply divine and of all the teas, it definitely has the best benefits.

Green tea is being recognised more and more for its health benefits and its popularity is every increasing. I’ll admit, plain green tea is not my thing. It just kind of tastes like grass in my opinion and I really do not want to drink grass. This tea, however, has a delicate and sweet cherry taste with a little hint of green tea peaking through. Do not be intimidated if you do not like the taste of green tea, this is incredible. Green tea is full of powerful anti-oxidants, fat fighting and cancer fighting properties. There is a reason why green-tea is shoved into health and beauty products alike. Its no joke. My skin and metabolism has honestly improved since drinking herbal tea, particularly green tea. I thought it was all a myth, but it is scientifically proven and it really works. Another thing I like about this tea is that it gives me a lovely energy boost. Unlike coffee, i do not get those horrible jitters and racing heart. There is nothing worse than when you try to caffeinated yourself for energy but you still feel sluggish and tired, but with a quicker heart rate. This tea gives you a great but gentle boost, you need it in your life!

Cream Earl Grey

wp-1488562692625.jpg

Earl grey seems to be hit and miss with a lot of people, with many complaints about a strong, perfumery kind of taste. I personally love a good, strong cup of earl grey and lemon. As an English girl I feel like most of the water percentage in my body is made up of breakfast tea. However, this Earl Grey is special because it is really delicate, creamy and delicious with a slightly sweet taste. It is made from black tea, cornflower petals and natural flavour.

Even if you just like to stick to your normal PG tips, you might be surprised at the health and beauty benefits of black tea. Black tea contains alkylamine antigens that help boost our immune response. In addition to this, it also contains tannins that have the ability to fight viruses that protect us from influenza, stomach flu and other common viruses. Not directly a beauty benefit so to speak, but im more than happy to try and prevent having my nose glued to a tissue all day.

There is a reason why you feel happy and relieved when you drink tea. Black tea’s such as this gorgeous earl grey and your standard breakfast tea contain amino acid L-theanine, which helps you relax and concentrate better. Also, it helps decrease the stress hormone cortisol when consumed in moderate amounts on a regular basis. So get drinking my darlings!

I hope you have enjoyed today’s post and I hope I have convinced you to give tea a go. Here are the links to The Cheshire Tea Company’s website and Facebook page if you are interested in purchasing any of the tea’s I wrote about or if you want to explore the rest of their range! See you again soon! Love Elizabeth xox
