Summer Slim Down Series: Exercise Motivation (Week One)

For week ones segment in my summer slim down series, I wanted to talk to you about exercise; more importantly, how to stay motivated to exercise. I know a lot of us struggle with staying motivated and when the weather is as hot as this, building up even more of a sweat does not always sound like the most appealing thing. To stay motivated, we have to change how we look at exercise.

Its Not A Chore

When we think of exercise as something we have to do and not something we want to do, we view it as a bit of a chore and we associate with all sorts of negative feelings. Mind over matter is key to successfully working out. Any workout is better than no workout and I try to get through a tough day by thinking of how good I will feel once I have done it and how I am one little step closer to my ultimate goal.

Switch It Up

If you absolutely dread your workout, then you may be doing the wrong kind of workout. You do not have to go to a gym or run on a treadmill to get fit. You don’t even have to leave the house. You can join classes such as dance or boxing, or you can follow YouTube accounts such as Blogilates and Fitness Blender for great workouts that you can do in your living room/bedroom. You can even go swimming. There is always something for everyone; find what suits you! Also, add some variety! If you are doing the same thing all the time, you will get bored and hinder your progress. Switch it up and try doing different things each session.

Work Out With A Friend Or Group

Sometimes, it is a lot more fun to go work out with a friend or to join a class at a gym or at a sports centre. Classes are great as you are all in the same position and all people have different abilities so they can cater to your needs. Make sure the person you go to the gym with is motivating in a good way and is a positive influence to be around, who will stick to meeting you and not bail out every time! Keep each other motivated and just have some fun with it!

Be Realistic With Your Goals

You are not going to get in shape overnight so try not to be disheartened; it can take months to see results. Exercise needs to be something that becomes a part of your lifestyle with the aim of working out as often as you can in ways you enjoy and look forward to doing. Do not push yourself or force yourself to do anything as it can create an unhealthy relationship with exercise. Speak to a doctor and a health professional for advice and steer clear of anyone who tries to sell you something.. fitness does not have to cost a penny.

Exercise makes me feel really good afterwards and it really lifts my mood! I feel like I have done something that will bring me one step closer to my goal which really motivates me to keep going and seeing progress really helps. I really enjoy it and take it one day at a time which helps me to stay on track. I try not to compare myself to others and set unrealistic goals because I am never going to be happy If I strive for something unattainable. I work on my body for myself and no one else to become the best version of myself that I can be.

I hope these tips were useful to you! Feel free to share any tips in the comments below! Thanks for reading xox
